More Short Course Truckery

cing the SC10 with mixed results…and bought something else…

Well, I’ve run the truck at my local club on tarmac here in Newark, no jumps but have been able to convince 4 others to join in the fun and games, they all have AE SC10′s too. All have a ball, but seem to run into trouble whereas (touch wood), mine’s been pretty reliable.
Jack’s truck was a kit but he messed up on painting it, so he’s swapped the body for an RTR one (the Bullydog). Chris’ truck has rounded off wheel after wheel, I put that down to the kit nuts losing grip on the axle. And Luke’s truck has suffered from the dreading diff click (caused by internal diff shims being a little too thin). Phils has been fine, but it was a bit hot from being a tad overgeared out of the box.
Anyhoo, the plan was to run it elsewhere too, West Bridgford run a Winter Series indoors on carpet for 2 and 4 wheel drive buggies, and also one for SCTs. Naturally I entered….

…and did hopeless.
The track was a mix of carpet and polished flooring, so that was tricky to get used to, as was the whole concept of jumping. It took a fair few goes to hustle it round at a pace I was comfortable with, but I was still a long way off everyone at the sharp end of the grid. That was mostly down to my inability to drive the track quick (I’m a TC driver at heart), but I persevered, and was rewarded with a finish. I forget where lol.
Second round of the series took place a month later, and I’d done a couple of Newark meets between then so the truck wasn’t exactly 100%, but during the WB event it was clear that something was up. I added a rear anti-roll bar, it was lacking WHOOOSH and the handling was a little iffy, along with the awful click sound from the diff. I couldn’t fix those problems trackside apart from a higher C-rated LiPO pack (5000mah 40C compared to 3800mah 30C), and that helped over the double jumps, but made the diff sound horrible. I finished near enough dead last, and discovered a cracked wishbone to boot. Handy, not.
During the week, I lost all mojo for this SC10. All the bits needing fixing and swapping out was a drain, and in most cases like this, I’d bail and find something else to take my fancy. But nooooooooo….. one expensive trip to the oOple forum later, and I’m the new owner of Ben Turner’s SC10.

Its box stock apart from a blue FT motor mount and JConcepts Rulux wheels. Overall, its better condition, and the 9 LED light kit on the JConcepts Dare body looks awesome in the dark!

Not 100% sure what the plan is, the first SC10 is fixed now so its ready to roll, so this new one could be a spares truck. Either way, I’m still racing!
