Webspots – ’22 Hot Rod
August 19, 2009 at 10:34 pm | Posted in Webspots | Leave a commentBeing a big fan of the custom car scene, I’ve got a soft spot for all modified things – even in RC. To this end, I’ve been looking at getting a scale 4×4, not a huge monstertruck, but a proper Mitsubishi Shogun-type car for scale green-laning and larking in the mud. That means spending time on forums ”for research…” and spotting all manner of custom tomfoolery. Amongst my spots (more coming soon), was this frankly awesome and original ’22 Hot Rod, over at the Scale 4×4 R/C Forums, built by chevy55.
The builder is trying to keep as scale as possible….including casing the 540 electric motor inside the scale engine, and having a solid axle at the rear. Makes you nostalgic for the TV series ‘American Hot Rod’ doesn’t it?
We’re keeping an eye on this. 
HPI Formula Ten – building and running

Well, it all started in April 2009, when HPI released teaser shots of a car that set tongues wagging and message boards alight.
HPI built their company up in the 1990′s based on the business model of selling upgrades for various Tamiya cars at the time. One of these was the Tamiya F102, a rear wheel drive pan car with a realistic F1 bodyshell. In Japan, they were hugely popular, and after a while, HPI saw the potential of the market, and released their own design F1 chassis constructed from carbon fibre, alloy and graphite. It was successful when placed head-to-head with the other main race-spec F1 car, the Corally F1, but the class was dwindling with the rise of touring cars, and HPI abandoned the area.

Well, I had to admit it sooner or later. You see me banging on about needing the latest and greatest chassis to race with…and I’m still right. BUT, this is proof you don’t need a super-duper car for just club use! 
I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, lack of RC mojo caused by a few things and selling up from TC to do buggies kinda caused all that. That and the fact I can’t keep something 10 mins without being bored of it. 
But, by local club have been running outside in a carpark the past month or so, and I didn’t want to scratch up any decent chassis I have, so I busted out The Focus Of DoomTM!

Anyway, paint. Over the years, I’ve painted bodyshels myself.
Easy ones.
Hard ones.
Simple designs.
Complicated designs.
Airbrushed bodies.
Rattle can bodies.
And out of all of these, I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I’m a terrible painter. Well, not terrible, but very flawed. Its not that I can’t paint, because I can, its that I can’t wait to paint. The rush of the finger on the nozzle, the squirting noise and fantastic cool feeling of the paint hitting lexan; through the body. And as I can’t wait to paint, I cut corners and rush the other steps, and make mistakes.

Barring the news stories I do on forum, I hardly ever start threads, so I’ll use this as some sort of platform to mutter, ramble, and moan about anything that takes my fancy. 
So, part 1, the state of RC in the global economic crisis coming right up.

Its a random blog about anything and and everything, somewhere I can just sound off or leave junk behind, see if anyone agrees (or hates) what I put. Mostly about Radio Controlled vehicles, but may branch out into anything I want to vent about… hehe.
